The following is the e-mail sent by Nigel Howarth to Mr. Georgiades on the 13th August, and in response to his e-mail.
Dear Mr. Georgiades,
Thank you for your email.
I was very surprised to receive it, particularly as I did not accuse your company, or indeed name any of the companies involved in the construction of the properties shown in the ‘Building Disasters!’ section of my website.
As there were no false accusations against your Company on my website, I could not remove them. However, I have issued a corrective statement for those who may have been misled; I trust this meets with your satisfaction; perhaps you could advise me at your earliest convenience.
Since you emailed me on 10th August alerting me to the fact that Aristo Developers did not construct the properties in question, I have carried out some further research. I have discovered that the properties were built by a company named ‘Artha Estates Limited’. This company, registration number C41049, which was registered on 20th August 1990 shares the same registration office as your company – so I can fully understand the reasons why that company chose yours to help them resolve their disastrous mistakes.
With reference to your statement about the developer undertaking all costs for the repair work even though the project was over 17 years old. My understanding of the situation is that the problems became apparent shortly after the Chloraka Sunset buyers took delivery and they have been pursuing the developer to correct the situation for almost 17 years. That provides an invaluable insight into just one of the many problems foreigners face when buying property – a total lack of customer service.
But one thing does surprise me – I understand that in the 1980’s, the Cyprus Government introduced strict anti-seismic regulations. I fail to understand how properties meeting those regulations could possibly collapse under their own weight as those at Chloraka Sunset. Surely, the authorities would have refused to issue the Permits necessary for the development’s construction? Furthermore, if there had been significant seismic activity affecting the Chloraka Sunset area, I envisage that the problems of collapse would have been greatly accelerated with possible horrendous consequences for anyone living there.
As for my motives – as I clearly state in my website, I am totally independent of any companies or organizations involved in the buying, selling, renting, construction, etc. of property. I have taken on the (unpaid) job of giving inde3pendent information, advice, guidance and assistance to those looking to buy property in the Republic. This helps ensure that buyers have good experience (in sharp contrast to those who bought at Chloraka Sunset) – and I have also written an in-depth guide on the subject.
